Martin David Lambert
County Attorney
Marty Lambert was born on April 26, 1955, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Parents Keith "Dobbie" Lambert and Arline Lambert were moving to Bozeman because Dobbie had just been named head basketball coach at Montana State College. Marty has one brother, Gary, who played basketball for Dobbie at MSC. After Gary served in the Marine Corps he began a career in business. Gary resides with his wife, Gayle, in Texas. Arline still lives in Bozeman.
Educated in Montana Schools
Educated in Bozeman schools, Marty graduated from Bozeman Senior High in 1973. Marty earned a B.A. in Political Science with Honors from Montana State University in 1978.
On August 8, 1981, Marty married Kathryn Louise Weaver, daughter of former Bozeman Mayor Ken Weaver and Judy Weaver, former Director of the Museum of the Rockies. Both Marty and Kathryn were attending Law School at the University of Montana in Missoula at the time. During law school Marty showed interest in public service. Marty had internships with both the Missoula City Attorney and the Gallatin County Attorney. Marty graduated from U.M. Law in June, 1983. Kathryn is now the senior water master with the Montana Water Court in Bozeman.

Marty began working as a Deputy County Attorney for Gallatin County in August, 1983. Due to his exemplary service in 1988 County Attorney Mike Salvagni named Marty Chief Deputy County Attorney. Marty served in the role of Chief Deputy from 1988 until his appointment as County Attorney in 1997. Marty’s duties included the prosecution of criminal cases, including cases of homicide, rape and robbery; and the assignment of all criminal cases handled by the office.
In recent years Marty successfully prosecuted crimes of embezzelment, rape, kidnapping, assault of children, robbery, and homicide.
Marty has considerable experience with the law of local government land use such as subdivision and zoning. Marty advised the Zoning Commission during the 2002 hearings on J.M. Huber’s attempt to drill test wells for coal bed methane in the Bozeman pass area and Marty has to date led the successful defense of the Commission’s decision to deny Huber’s application to drill test wells.
Marty is a Past President of the Montana County Attorney’s Association, and served as the Association’s President during the 2005 Session of the Montana Legislature. Marty also served as Chair of the Association’s Legislation Committee. Marty is known in the Legislature as an advocate for tougher drunk driving laws and for protection of crime victims.
Advocate for Victim/Witness Program
Marty helped secure new offices for the Victim/Witness program, Guardians ad Litem, and Battered Women’s Advocate on the 3rd floor of the Law & Justice Center. The new offices include a child-friendly interview room where children who are crime victims can be interviewed in a non-threatening setting.

Marty and Kathryn recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. The couple have three children: Ben, age 20; Clara, age 17; and Nathaniel (Natty), age 13.
Marty was a violin student of Dr. Creech Reynolds and Patty Reynolds, and he currently plays first violin for the Bozeman Symphony.
